With a cinematic interpretation of Debussy’s Fêtes, this performance film explores the mechanical relationship between Salov and the piano, evoking an emotional state in the performance and suggesting an atmosphere akin to the impressionist movement. Sudden Flashes of Light was shot and recorded live over three days at the Salle Claude Champagne of University of Montreal. The trip was originally intended to be a family trip organized by my brother: pink dolphins, climbing trees, wild life, that sort of stuff. Although that part of the trip was fun mine had to be different. Upon our arrival in Leticia, the capital of the Amazon, I started inquiring locals for ceremonies with Ayahuasca. Also known as Yage. It wasn't until our last day, just a few hours before flying back to Bogota, that a young man from Medellin gave me details on where to go. I was sent to 'River' a Wuitoto that sold arts and crafts in Leticia's main square. Finding River was not hard, everybody knows him. River was wearing white clothes and spoke in a friendly manner. Somehow I knew I could trust him. He told me to come back at 5pm to wait for a small local bus that would take me about an hour north into the Bora Reserve. The only thing left for me was to change my flight back to Bogota for the next available date: 5 days later. I said goodbye to my people and I stayed behind. At 5pm a small local bus known as 'colectivo' pulled up in the main square. From the amount of people that came off the bus, I knew the trip was not going to be comfortable. I found a spot on the floor next to the driver. An hour into the trip the 'colectivo' pulled to the side of the road. That was my stop. The mix of moonlight and flickering lamp posts set the mood as I made my way into the Bora reserve...
